UrbanOak brings nature's elegance to urban living through exquisitely crafted oak wood furniture and decor. Each piece tells a story of craftsmanship, sustainability, and enduring beauty.
Explore CollectionFounded in 2010, UrbanOak began as a small workshop in Portland, Oregon, with a passion for transforming raw oak into functional art. Our founder, Michael Reeves, believed that every urban space deserved a touch of nature's warmth and elegance.
What started as a one-person operation has grown into a team of 15 master craftspeople who share Michael's vision for creating furniture that stands the test of time. We've remained true to our roots, maintaining our small-batch production approach even as demand for our pieces has grown internationally.
Our workshop continues to operate in Portland, where we've expanded to a 10,000 square foot facility that houses both our production area and a showroom open to the public. Here, clients can witness firsthand the care and attention that goes into each UrbanOak creation.
We sustainably source our oak from responsibly managed forests in the Pacific Northwest, supporting local ecosystems and communities while reducing our environmental footprint. Each piece of wood is carefully selected for its grain pattern, strength, and character, ensuring that every item we produce is truly unique.
At UrbanOak, we believe that furniture should tell a story—not just of the tree it came from, but of the hands that shaped it and the home it will become part of. This philosophy guides everything we do, from design to delivery.

View DetailsEach UrbanOak piece undergoes a meticulous process that combines traditional woodworking techniques with modern design principles. From selection to finishing, we dedicate over 100 hours of skilled labor to each major piece of furniture.
We carefully select oak from responsibly managed forests, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Each tree is chosen for its unique character and grain pattern, with sustainability certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council.
Our skilled craftsmen transform raw wood into beautiful pieces using time-honored techniques. We combine traditional joinery methods with precision technology to create furniture that will last for generations.
Each piece is meticulously finished with natural oils to enhance the wood's natural beauty. Our multi-step finishing process protects the wood while allowing it to age gracefully, developing a rich patina over time.
At UrbanOak, we believe that creating beautiful furniture should not come at the expense of our planet. That's why we've implemented a comprehensive sustainability program that touches every aspect of our business.
We source 100% of our oak from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring that our wood comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.
Our workshop is powered by renewable energy, with solar panels covering 80% of our roof space. We've implemented a zero-waste policy for sawdust and wood scraps, which are either repurposed for smaller projects or donated to local farms for animal bedding.
We use only low-VOC, plant-based finishes and adhesives, ensuring that our furniture is safe for your home and the environment. Our packaging is 100% recyclable and made from post-consumer materials.
Beyond environmental sustainability, we're committed to social responsibility. We pay living wages, provide comprehensive benefits, and invest in ongoing training for all our craftspeople. We also donate 5% of profits to organizations working to preserve forest habitats.

We understand that sometimes standard sizes and designs don't meet your specific needs. That's why we offer comprehensive custom furniture solutions tailored to your space, style, and functional requirements.
Our custom process begins with an in-home or virtual consultation where we learn about your space, needs, and aesthetic preferences. We then create detailed 3D renderings of your proposed piece, allowing you to visualize exactly how it will look in your space.
Once the design is finalized, our craftspeople get to work, using the same attention to detail and quality materials that go into all our pieces. Throughout the process, we provide regular updates and photos, so you can see your custom piece taking shape.
We can accommodate a wide range of customizations, including:
Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild soap solution. Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain and immediately dry with a clean cloth.
Keep your furniture away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas with high humidity. Use coasters under glasses and trivets under hot dishes to prevent damage to the finish.
Wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in humidity. During dry seasons, consider using a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity levels (40-45%) to prevent cracking.
Every 2-3 years, depending on use, consider reapplying a natural oil finish to maintain the wood's luster and protection. We offer professional refinishing services for heavily used pieces.
Our standard production time for custom furniture is 8-12 weeks from design approval. This timeframe allows for proper wood acclimation, craftsmanship, and finishing. Complex projects may require additional time, which we will discuss during the consultation phase.
Yes, we ship throughout the United States and internationally. Domestic shipping typically takes 1-2 weeks after completion. We use specialized furniture carriers who handle each piece with care. International shipping times vary by destination. All furniture is fully insured during transit.
We offer a 10-year warranty on all our furniture against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty covers structural issues but does not cover normal wear and tear, damage from misuse, or changes in the wood's appearance due to aging. Finish warranties are for 5 years. Please see our warranty page for complete details.
Absolutely! We welcome visitors to our Portland workshop and showroom. We're open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm. For a more personalized experience, we recommend scheduling a tour in advance, which allows us to dedicate time to show you our process and answer any questions.
We provide detailed care instructions with each piece. Generally, we recommend dusting regularly with a soft cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes, and using coasters under glasses. Every few years, you may want to apply a fresh coat of natural oil finish, which we can provide. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
